I'm waiting for [personal profile] ernads to get off the bus in my parents' car, she phones to say the bus is getting close, so I move out to where the buses usually stopped. There were soldiers waiting around- from the equipment I knew they were going out to the op, not much else. I tagged the soft voices as "not Givaati or Golani" and not much more, but something still felt Off, then I caught one of the berets, Nachal, and everything clicked.

I've still got Nachal T-shirts (don't wear 'em, just keep 'em; they're still falling apart), and beret badges, and one of the *old* ('90s) shoulder tags. When I left, at the airport, Shabak asked me a million questions about my shirt and the pins and the tag on my carry-on luggage. Can you guess? Those lovable little bastards set me up. First call I made back to Israel, I got this: "Nic, how many questions did Shabak ask you?"

I hope they stay safe tonight.

You and Shiri, and your families, keep safe, please.

Thanks hon, will do out best.

I am taking this worse than Opher. Have some unpleasant memories from the war in 2006, as our city was heavily targeted. But it will be OK.

Oh, your BFFs were Nachlawim? This explains so, so much.
